Lapped Car information from SSWA - please read!
In our current rulebook page 17 rule 4.20.4 the below is stated.
1.1.1 In all restarts, lapped Race Cars will retain their positions in the line up as per the previously recorded lap or as directed by the Chief Steward.
At the 2016 SSA national conference it was decided that as of 1st October 2016 lapped cars WILL go to the rear for restarts behind the lead lap cars.
Any lead lap car penalized for a rule infringement WILL restart behind the lapped cars but remain on the lead lap.
Stewards are to exercise common sense when doing this and consider the experience/ability/car standard of the lapped cars so as the lead lap car sent to the rear is not overly unfairly disadvantaged by the lapped cars.
If there has been a huge difference in car speed then it could be more sensible to place the car sent rear at the end of the lead lap cars and in front of the lapped cars.
This decision was made with input from ALL states and on the grounds of – safety and crash damage expense when lapped cars are amongst the leaders on restarts.
