Brown goes undefeated for big feature race win in Albany

Broome-based speedster Kodee Brown produced a dazzling display at Albany’s Attwell Park to go through round 3 of the SSRC Super Sedan Summer Series undefeated on Saturday night.

Brown made the long trek down to Albany worthwhile in his lightning quick super sedan as he won both his heat races and the A-dash to start the 25-lap feature race from pole position.

From the drop of the green flag the 2004 national titleholder and three-time WA State champion blasted to the lead and despite several stoppages throughout the feature race there was simply no stopping him.

Brown cleared out from the chasing pack at every restart and whizzed through slower cars with ease as he lapped a large part of the field.

His superior speed was clear for all to see which included Brown recording a sizzling 15.742 second circuit on lap 15 as he went on to cross the line 7.684 seconds ahead of his Gary Higgs.

“It’s good to be back in the super,” Brown said.

“The car went really well tonight and I’m stoked with the finish.

“I love racing here, it’s an awesome track and credit to the club.”

Higgs’ drive was full of merit after a mechanical issue derailed his progress in the heat races and he eventually started the final from position 11.

Kemble Aylett impressed in third place while Tristan Green and Mt Barker’s Chris Pavlovich were the only other drivers to complete all 25-laps.

Aylett started alongside Brown on the front row while Dustin Higgs was enjoying a good run in third when his night came to an end on lap 10.

Rob Knox started from the second row but retired after 18 laps to join Tony St Jack, Shane O’Hanlon and Carl Aylett as non-finishers.

There was some terrific racing in the support divisions with the battle in the modified sedans between Clint Noakes, WA champion Aydan Trewern and young Albany driver Blake Watson a highlight.

Noakes won two heat races before Trewern narrowly edged out Watson in the feature race.

In the formula 125s Graeme Pollett walked away from a spectacular rollover in the opening heat race while junior driver Hayden Mortimer also rolled his machine in turn two of heat two but was also thankfully uninjured.

A terrific field of WA’s best super sedans will converge on the popular Attwell Park venue this Saturday night for round 3 of the SSRC Super Sedan Summer Series.

Three times WA champion Kodee Brown will headline the field of 19 nominations which also includes veteran competitor and former WA titleholder Bert Vosbergen along with Gary and Dustin Higgs.

Brown returned to the wheel of his super sedan on December 19 where he powered to victory in round 2 of the series at the Perth Motorplex and heads to Albany with plenty of confidence, having performed well here in previous seasons.

Dustin Higgs, also making a return to the division after a layoff, finished second in the 20-lap final in round 2 and has always been hard to beat at the 420m Attwell Park track.

Opening round victor in the series Kemble Aylett returns to a happy hunting ground as well, having won the prestigious Bill Gibbings Memorial in Albany back in 2006-07.

Vosbergen and Gary Higgs both have plenty of experience in this series and have turned plenty of laps around Attwell Park in their time.

Mt Barker speedster Chris Pavlovich will also be among the fancies on Saturday night while the likes of Kyle Larson, Tristan Green and Rob Knox are also entered.

Support divisions on the night will include modified sedans, production sedans, limited sprintcars, junior sedans and formula 125s.

Gates open at 4pm with the racing set to kick off at 6pm.
